How Do You Keep Your French Bulldog Safe in a Vehicle?

french bulldog car restraint

Hey it’s Austin from FrenchieBS.com. Today I want to show you what I use to keep my French bulldog safe whenever traveling in my vehicle. A French Bulldog car restraint is a tricky thing to buy!

Calvin loves to go on road trips, and I like to make sure that he’s safe and sound whenever we’re on the move. My first attempt at finding a solution to this problem was the WOPet Booster seat, deluxe pet dog booster car seat, with clip on safety leash and zipper storage pocket.

When I first got Calvin, he weighed about 10 pounds. I needed a way to transport him around in my truck safely, and was hoping I could get him a car seat like this one to travel around in. It’s not safe for puppers to travel in vehicles unrestrained, so when I saw this booster seat, and the price that it was advertised for, it seemed like a no brainer.

So is it good 💩 , or is it bull 💩 ?

The WOPet booster seat sells for fifteen dollars or so on Amazon, so it sounds like an amazing deal. It’s made of oxford cloth material, and is advertised to help protect your seat from pet hair, and muddy paws. It comes with a car seat, straps that attach to your car seat, plastic pipes, and a strap that you can attach to your dog’s harness.

It should probably go without saying that you don’t ever want to secure your Frenchie in a vehicle without a vest harness. But I’ll say it anyway. Strapping your dog into a vehicle, and then attaching a restraint to a neck collar, is dangerous. If you’re ever in an accident, your Frenchie would get choked! Make sure you get yourself a good harness to help secure them safely. Also, don’t forget to turn off your passenger side airbag if they’re riding in the front. If it deploys, it could seriously hurt or even kill your dog.

A French Bulldog Car Restraint Is a Tricky Thing To Buy

But let’s look closer at this WHOA Pet booster seat. It says it’s for pets less than 20 pounds, which makes sense. My French bulldog puppy was definitely less than that when we used this product. But let me just say… it’s total bull 💩 .

French bulldogs, even when they’re puppies, may be small, but they are strong. Their bulldog nature makes them all beefy and muscley, even at a young age. Calvin was not a big fan of this seat either. Not only did he hate sitting in it, but as soon as he started chewing on one bit of it, it came apart almost immediately. The materials and construction are not high quality, like the plastic strap that attaches to their harness. You want something stronger in case of an accident, like high quality steel.

Plus the sides of the seat fall down easily when my Frenchie Calvin leaned on them. Looking at the terrible photo in the advertisement of an unrestrained puppy they photoshopped in does not inspire confidence.

After a few days, it made no sense to continue using it, as it fell apart very quickly. I will say however, if you have a calmer, or less muscular dog, it might work for you. Frenchies in my opinion, are too strong for this, even if they’re under 20 pounds.

They do offer a refund they claim, but for fifteen bucks, it wasn’t worth it to try to get my money back. So do yourself a favor, and skip this product. I give it a 1 out of 5, which makes it total bull 💩 .

The Best French Bulldog Car Restraint Is Actually The Cheapest!

If you are looking for a great restraint for your vehicle that’s not too expensive, I recommend the BWOGUE safety seat belt strap car headrest restraint. It’s a simple strap that snaps around a headrest and then you’re ready to go. They’re very affordable, only ten bucks for two. The belt is adjustable, high quality, and will keep your Frenchie safe anywhere you go. The only real downside is that it won’t block hair from getting on your seat, but it’s easy enough to put down a blanket. You can find the BWOGUE seat belt strap on Amazon.com.
